Welcome to Running with Rainbows, my name is Maja Larson and I am from Oakbank Manitoba Canada! I am a self taught Multi media Artist who enjoys making & teaching art online and in person.
All throughout 2024 we are exploring Women Artists and creating fun creative pieces inspired by each Artist!

July is Cancer the Crab 🦀 ♋️🎨

Self Portraits
Portraits and the ratio of the body to the canvas in these compositions convey and communicate differently to our Eyes and our Inner Eye.
The inner eye is the synthesis of our mind and bodies intelligence co-mingling with what the eye is recording. This relationship lays a very one-sided personal filter over everything we experience- that includes the sense of Sight as a component.
The details we as artists convey or are able to choose to convey, depend on the distance from the subject. The farther away the person, the less details are able to be read sensibly.
Frida often- but not always had to paint laying down, so would be impacted by the image she could see reflected back to her. A rich meaningful echo of the ancient glyph for the months Astrological sign, ♋️ Cancer.
Frida created in a variety of perspectives, from an intimate angle in her What the Water Gave me, to the full bodies of The two Frida's, to just the head and shoulders, some reminding us of x-rays like in her painting- The Broken Column. …she explored so many.
Her quest for understanding herself was undertaken through Art. And this is an important history, the ongoing clarification and reclaiming of the female narrative,the inner landscape of how women think.
***Our monoprint today can easily be adapted to a self portrait, take a selfie or have a friend take a photo of you. Print it it to 8 x10 or 9 x12 and slide it into the plastic sleeve.***

● Plastic page protector
● Green Painters tape
●Water paper
●Acrylic paint/ Blue/ Red/ Yellow Ochre/Peach
●Paint brush
●Printable
Steps:
Watch the full video first
Tape your plastic page protector to your water color paper using the low tac painters tape.
Start by using your Peach and Ochre for the face and neck
Add Red to the Ochre for cheek colors. Press lightly between areas, wipe off the page protector if there is too much paint on it.
Use the black for the hair eyebrows and nostrils, and Blue for her top.
*You can let each layer dry before doing the next color or detail to avoid any problems. *
Feel free to embellish in Posca paint pens or other after it's 100% dry.
